Before retiring, Goh Lay Lan worked as an IT professional in the banking industry. Since being relieved of her parental responsibilities, she has decided to brush up on her skills and learn about innovations and trends most relevant in the industry today, such as Open Banking and Platforms.
CFTE: What motivated you to learn about Open Banking and Platforms?
Goh: Trying to make sense of what has transpired in the digital and financial world seems to be an instinct with my background. The courses I attended at CFTE are forward-thinking and insightful, and have provided me with much relevant in-depth knowledge.
Given that my previous IT skills and knowledge are outdated, I am trying to update my skill set. The knowledge of Fintech and the new services that can be offered in open banking is useful for any bank employees (IT and non-IT staff) who wish to reinvent themselves. It is from knowing the opportunities that you can decide what you can do and how to participate in a meaningful role. Knowledge provides clarity, training empowers!
CFTE: How have you applied the skills and knowledge acquired through the course?
Goh: What I have learnt from the courses at CFTE are knowledge-based. The CFTE’s courses have been instrumental in my planning and deciding on what I want, can and need to do to embark on my future endeavours.
I believe many of those in my age group who are still working in banking can play a more constructive role by understanding and adapting to not only the innovations we are seeing currently, but also the changes we can expect, and work more productively with new participants in their workplace in this transformation journey.
CFTE: What did you enjoy the most about the course?
Goh: The course content is engaging. Developments happening globally ascertain the momentum opening banking has gathered. I appreciated the fact that the courses were taught by experts, individuals who have practical knowledge and experience of the industry and the topics they are teaching.
CFTE: And finally, if you could describe yourself in only 3 words, what would you say?
Goh: Fun, creative and intellectual.
