No matter what your role in banking is, everybody should have a good understanding of Fintech
Vanessa Chamley has had 15 years of experience in digital marketing and has been working in the Finance industry for the past 4 years, specifically as Senior Marketing Manager at American Express. Her interest in the dynamic experience that technology and digital channels can facilitate has led her to take the Fintech Specialisation, through which she gained a better understanding of how Fintech concepts can be applied to traditional models of banking and payments.
CFTE: What motivated you to learn about Fintech?
Vanessa: The ‘Financial Revolution’ and the myriad of ways tech disruption is ubiquitous in Finance is something I wanted to learn more about. A detailed understanding of key technologies such as Cloud computing and Blockchain is important for me to understand as a marketer that influences customer experiences in my role, and also as an end consumer of the technology itself.
CFTE: How have you applied the skills and knowledge acquired through the Fintech course?
Vanessa: I think the biggest takeaway from the course was getting a better understanding of how consumers and businesses are adopting digital transformation in the way they manage their finances. Regardless of your specific role in Finance, I believe a deep understanding of the key Fintech innovations is essential and this course was able to provide that.
The course also allowed me to learn about the different career opportunities that exist and consider options for pivoting to become more specialised.
CFTE: What did you enjoy the most about the course?
Vanessa: Hearing from leading industry disruptors – understanding the unique business models they’ve created and their advice about how to forge a path in Fintech. Also enjoyed learning about how ICO’s work and the Challenger Banks that are proving to be fierce competition for traditional institutions.
CFTE: And finally, if you could describe yourself in only 3 words, what would you say?
Vanessa:Passionate, strategic and innovative.
