With the COVID19 crisis agitating the economy and halting recruitment processes across multiple industries, many graduates, students, and young professionals find themselves looking for work in one of the biggest recessions the world has yet to see. Despite some businesses being rendered incapable of hiring new talent, many companies are more than able to, as they’ve experienced growth throughout this pandemic. These points considered, CFTE has partnered with Hult International Business School to host an event where attendees will be able to gain valuable insights through industry experts, and network with companies that are currently seeking to hire.

#PastCOVID-19 is an event whereby 6 guest speakers will be leveraging their experience to share their knowledge and advice across 2 panels. The first panel on “Hacking Your Employability Strategy” will feature career adviser Dawn Watson,  head of Adecco’s early careers function NextGeneration, Dan Crerand, and Head of Marketing and Communications at Sceenic, Natalia Higuera. Our second panel on “Founding a Business During Recession” will feature Hult Professor of Practice Entrepreneurship & Innovation, Daniel Rukare, Hult Faculty and Research Fellow, Dr. Nikhilesh Sinha, and CFTE’s Head of Entrepreneurship, Janos Barberis.

Whether participants are looking to find opportunities in the job market, start a business or an innovative project, or gain insights on a variety of industries, this event is a space for candidates, companies, and experts to converge and propel those goals forward.

Through this event, with the contribution of 8 student authors, and a partnership with financial newsletter The Desk, Hult and CFTE will also be releasing 8 industry-focused articles to inform participants on a variety of relevant topics, related to the crisis and the changes it is provoking. You can learn more about the articles here, and read those that catch your attention.

Event Articles:

1. “Post-COVID Cities – Opportunities arising from rethinking them” by Christina Connell

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted some of the inefficiencies of our cities. Moving past this crisis, cities will have to be rethought to accommodate our new normality. Remote working and all-in-one neighbourhoods will largely define how these new urban areas will look like, and will give opportunity for many businesses to prosper and help in the redefinition of our cities.

2. “COVID-19 and Entrepreneurship. A New Way Of Creating Your Business In Times Of Recession” by Adrià Serrarols Soldevila

Social innovation means re-thinking the way we measure performance, taking into account more than economic factors, to include social impact. We must understand how to use social finance for this purpose, and merge it with entrepreneurship to open up new opportunities leading to change.

3.“Development banking in times of crisis” by Minh Phung

Certain bankers and financiers are working across borders in the background to ensure that weak economies do not suffer what they must.

4. “Remote work is the new norm” by Luis Pazmiño

What is true and will probably remain true for the foreseeable future is that remote work is here to stay.

5. “Are you ready to embrace the future?” by Marisol Garfias

Seizing available entrepreneurial or work opportunities post COVID-19 will require ‘out of the box thinking’. With such an approach, we are able to acknowledge that the world has changed and thus we can take advantage of needs that arose during the pandemic.

6. “Can public infrastructure support economic recovery?” by Niklas Gaertner

Now, what are public infrastructure investments, what are its effects on employment and how can it help countries emerge from the COVID-19 crisis stronger?

7. “Multi-Latinas: Lessons from the Latin-American ‘Lost Decade’” by Fernanda Alvarez

Despite the adversities that restructured the Latin American market, the right conditions were simulated for the rise of Multi-Latinas; and their lessons are to be learnt now more than ever.

8. “How to legally evade a crisis” by Kim Ninh

COVID-19 has very effectively shed light on huge technological advances that the legal sector, unlike other sectors in the economy, have yet to take full advantage of.

With the insights provided by our panelists, the information provided by our authors, and the networking opportunity presented through CFTE’s Virtual Campus, we look forward to an exciting session. We are thrilled to have co-launched this event with Hult International Business School, and certain that it will support all participants in getting a foothold beyond the COVID-19 crisis.
