LONDON, 6 April 2026

CFTE today announced the launch of its Senior Leadership Alignment Programme for financial institutions and central banks. The programme is designed to help senior leadership teams translate AI ambition into clear strategic decisions, aligned priorities, and effective execution.

The programme responds to a growing need among institutions that have moved beyond AI awareness and experimentation, but now face more complex questions around business direction, operating models, governance, risk, capability-building, and execution.

The timing reflects a major shift in the AI landscape. The first wave of AI focused on backend capabilities such as classification and prediction. The second wave, driven by generative AI, brought content creation and automation to the forefront of professional work. The third wave, now emerging, is defined by agentic AI – systems that can execute tasks autonomously across workflows and systems.

This shift has fundamentally changed the leadership challenge. Many organisations are still making decisions based on second-wave assumptions, while the third wave is reshaping competitive dynamics.

Across financial services, organisations have invested heavily in AI tools, pilots, and training programmes. However, only a small proportion are achieving meaningful impact at scale. The constraint is no longer access to technology, but the ability of leadership teams to align on direction, priorities, and execution.

The Senior Leadership Alignment Programme is designed to address this gap. It is not technical training or tool demonstration. It is a structured environment for leadership teams to build shared understanding and align on critical decisions.

The programme is built around four pillars:

Expert-led insight to establish a shared strategic understanding of AI

Use-case intelligence to highlight real-world applications and emerging patterns

Framework-driven thinking to structure decisions and trade-offs

Outcome-driven alignment to translate discussion into clear priorities and next steps

By the end of the programme, participants will have a shared understanding of AI implications for their organisation, alignment on key strategic priorities, and a clearer basis for decision-making and execution.

The programme is available in three formats:

90-minute executive briefing

Half-day leadership session

Full-day alignment workshop

“AI transformation now depends on leadership alignment as much as technology. Organisations that can align quickly on direction, governance, and capability will move ahead. Those that cannot will find themselves reacting to change rather than shaping it.” Huy Nguyen Trieu, Co-founder of CFTE and former Managing Director at Citi

CFTE is uniquely positioned to deliver this programme through its combination of sector expertise, global reach, and neutral positioning. Unlike consulting firms or technology vendors, CFTE does not promote specific solutions or platforms. Its focus is on helping organisations make better decisions and build internal capability.

CFTE has worked with financial institutions, regulators, and central banks across more than 130 countries, reaching over 200,000 participants globally.

For more information, visit: cfte.education

Note to Editors

Programme: Senior Leadership Alignment Programme
Audience: CXO and senior leadership teams, board members
Sectors: Financial institutions, regulators, central banks
Formats: 90-minute briefing, half-day session, full-day programme
Programme Director: Huy Nguyen Trieu
Contact: partners@cfte.education

About CFTE

The Centre for Finance, Technology and Entrepreneurship (CFTE) is a global platform building capabilities in finance and technology. Headquartered in London, with offices in Singapore and Abu Dhabi, CFTE works with governments, regulators, and financial institutions to design frameworks and programmes that support transformation at scale.

Is this widespread adoption enough?

Are people equipped with literacy using AI correctly and effectively?

Do companies have the right AI strategy across all levels?

/

Why AI Literacy Is Everyone’s Business?

As the countdown begins for Future Skills Forum Asia 2025, part of the Singapore FinTech Festival’s milestone 10th edition, one theme is already demanding serious attention: the urgent need for AI Literacy.

/

Check out FSF 2025: https://fsf.cfte.education/

While AI tools are rapidly entering every sector, from finance and healthcare to education and government, the real transformation won’t come from the technology alone. It will come from the people who know how to use it wisely. AI literacy is emerging as one of the most essential capabilities for the coming decade, not because everyone needs to become a data scientist, but because navigating an AI-powered world requires more than technical fluency. It requires judgement, ethics, context, and critical thinking.

/

To be AI-literate means being able to ask the right questions of algorithms, understand how they’re built, identify where bias might emerge, and make confident decisions when machines are part of the process. These skills are no longer “nice to have” but are foundational for future-ready professionals at every level, across industries.

As we look ahead to FSF2025, where thousands of global leaders will gather to discuss the future of work, talent, and innovation, AI literacy will be a thread running through every conversation from how we prepare the next generation to how we build more inclusive and ethical digital economies. The world doesn’t just need more AI. It needs more people who understand it. And the future will belong to those who are not just using AI tools, but shaping how they are used.

/

Start building your AI literacy NOW!

/

/

Too often, AI is discussed in technical silos or executive summaries. This session brought it into the space where it matters most: regulatory strategy and national capacity building.

Here’s why it stood out:

A shift from features to frameworks

We moved beyond tools like ChatGPT and Gemini to ask bigger questions:

How do supervisors stay relevant when business models evolve overnight?

What defines “AI literacy” at the institutional level?

How do central banks upskill their talent to regulate what they don’t build?

A focus on capability, not just compliance

The discussion wasn’t reactive. It was design-oriented. We weren’t just warning about risks — we were co-creating models for readiness.

Direct engagement with regional decision-makers

This was not a tech showcase. It was a working session with those leading financial innovation, stability, and talent development across the Arab region.

Introduction

The World Bank sensed the possibility of integrating CBDCs with faster payment systems (FPS). A recent report by The World Bank Group, named “Interoperability between central bank digital currency (CBDC) systems and faster payment systems,” is now launching into the moderation phase with ITS Technology and Innovation Lab (ITSTI).

This programme is poised to change how the financial landscape operates by providing increased efficacy and security in digital transactions. Understanding how CBDCs interact with faster payment systems will be critical to building a future global payments landscape that keeps pace with the digital economy.

Background on CBDC and Faster Payment Systems

CBDCs are digital currency issued and backed by a country’s central bank to be used for transactions. There are two main types:

Retail CBDC: Intended for the general public, on par with cash or bank deposits.

Wholesale CBDC (wCBDC): Created for payments between financial institutions.

What are Faster Payment Systems?

Faster payment systems allow users to transfer funds between bank accounts almost instantaneously. These systems are designed to function 24/7, ensuring continuous availability and shortening the time it takes for funds to be transferred and cleared.

They involve two main steps:

Payment by the End User: Streamlined transactions and reduced processing times.

Settlement Between Banks: Improved mechanisms for fraud detection and prevention, leading to cost savings for both financial institutions and consumers.

Scenarios of Possible Implementation

The report considers several interoperability implementation scenarios, including:

Retail Transactions: A scenario where one party is using a retail CBDC while another party is using a faster payment system.

Interbank Settlements: Utilising a wholesale CBDC to conduct faster interbank settlement processes.

Cross-Border Payments: Achieving interoperable systems that will improve efficiency in cross-border transactions.

Technical Approaches Explored by the World Bank

The focus of the World Bank’s report includes:

Use of Bridge Providers: Entities that facilitate transactions between different systems.

Role of Central Banks: Acting as trusted intermediaries to accomplish interoperability.

Technical Approach in World Bank Experiments

Various technical approaches were involved in the experiments carried out by the World Bank to attain interoperability. These included the integration of the CBDC platforms with faster payment systems and assessment of various ways through which both would communicate seamlessly.

Key technical solutions proposed by the report include the use of APIs and standardised protocols to make interoperability seamless, ensuring efficient and secure transactions between CBDCs and faster payment systems.

Example of Bond Issuance on SIX Digital Exchange

A notable case involved the treasury department of the World Bank in a wholesale CBDC transaction, issuing a bond on the SIX Digital Exchange (SDX). This transaction was settled against the Swiss National Bank’s (SNB) wCBDC as part of the pilot project conducted by the SNB.

Key Takeaways from the SNB’s wCBDC Pilot

The recently extended two-year wCBDC pilot by the Swiss National Bank provides several insights into the practical implementation of wCBDC. The World Bank’s involvement in this pilot underscores the potential of wCBDC to improve interbank settlement procedures.

Conclusion

The World Bank’s exploration of interoperability between CBDC and faster payment systems marks a significant step towards transforming the financial landscape. The potential benefits of enhanced efficiency, added security, and cost savings underline the importance of this initiative.

As technology and financial systems continue to evolve, the insights and findings from the World Bank’s report will be instrumental in shaping the future of global financial transactions.

Web 3.0 Certificate Module 1

8th November is about designing financial services through web 3.0- this day focuses on the tokenisation of financial products, business payment transformation, capital market infrastructure and the impact on operations. It would be greatly useful for those involved in investment and corporate banking. The latter half of the day is focused on global trends panels; where experts discuss business models within embedded finance, decentralised finance, next-gen payment infrastructure and the need for a multi-jurisdictional SME platform namely in Asia and Africa. Everyday is finished with a guest of honour and a sponsored networking event to ensure you are able to build strong, cohesive and useful networks within the industry.

Web 3.0 Certificate Module 2

9th November surrounds the processes around building financial services specifically around DLT networks. Considering public and private DLTs, the designing of decentralised finance technologies using DLT and implementing DAPPS alongside the cybersecurity considerations required to build web 3.0 financial services. Once you finish learning, you will learn about the following global trends; digital currencies and their global adoption, web 3.0 layers for SMEs, building greener ai and its impact on the environment, the state of quantum technology and DLT gaining mainstream technology status. Once these discussions are complete, you’ll be in store for another guest of honour.

Web 3.0 Certificate Module 3

10th November makes up the final module on sustainable financial services- this is specially taught using Fintech unicorn case studies to understand the scaling considerations, processes, deployment of funds, hiring and culture. This provides learners with real life examples to substantiate their learning. The trends panel focuses on the trends of the largest markets (US and China), the investor’s spotlight on LATAM, the evolution of venture capital and the path to net-zero emissions. This lively discussion will be again followed by the final guest of honour.

This week, CFTE’s co-founder Tram Anh Nguyen had the opportunity to interview and meet Christelle Foucault, Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Diversity and Equality in France.

Christelle has more than 20 years of experience in Finance. She worked in Paris as well as internationally such as in Singapore for BNP Paribas Wealth management department. A Member of CFTE community as well as engaged learner, Christelle now has a job that didn’t exist a few years ago. On the occasion of International Women’s Day, we discover Christelle’s career path and achievements.

Christelle’s career in finance

Tram Anh: What is your background, your position and experience in the finance industry?

I have always worked in the banking and financial sector until I joined Elisabeth Moreno’s cabinet. I started my career as a sales advisor in a bank branch in Aquitaine, then moved on to more IT and international functions, first joining a software publisher specialising in credit risk management in Paris.

I then joined Groupe BPCE to help set up an IT EIG supporting the Caisses d’Epargne Régionales before joining Natixis (CIB) as International Project Manager. This experience allowed me to discover Asia and to say yes to an opportunity in Singapore as a Senior Consultant for a major French private bank which lasted 4 years until the summer of 2019. I then returned to Paris as IT Project Manager at Natixis until December 2020.

Tram Anh: Why are you interested in Digital finance and how has your journey in digital finance been?

My experience in Singapore marked a turning point in improving my professional skills. Apart from an initial experience of relocation and confrontation with the multicultural management of face-to-face teams, the ultra dynamic environment I felt as soon as I arrived in Asia, the pace of creation and modernisation, “pushes” you to want to complete your skills to be able to follow the evolution of the world around you and make your contribution to this technological evolution.

Tram Anh: Have you experienced any major career transition as a result of embracing the transformation of the industry?

No, there has been no clear break or evolution in my career linked to these technological developments in the world of Finance. The changes have been relatively gradual and in continuity.

Tram Anh: How has your career witnessed a transition in terms of new skills, technologies, knowledge, methods? What value do you place on constantly learning and upskilling?

I am lucky to have had an “atypical” career path that has allowed me to see different aspects and different activities within the same industry: the financial sector and the banking world in particular. From the sales network, to the development of structured product management software, from the implementation of Front to Back software with user support, from the worldwide deployment of a common IT solution to the development of an internal solution for regulatory reporting, all these changes could not have been made without the desire to learn and discover new horizons, or without the desire to get out of one’s comfort zone and the ability to take up studies here and there. From a Master’s degree in General Management in continuing education at ESSEC, to a FINTECH or cyber security certificate, combined with collaborative work with the “knowers”, employability requires lifelong training.

Indeed, the position of LGBT+ Rights Adviser did not exist within the Ministries until August 2020 and the arrival of Elisabeth Moreno in the Cabinet in charge of Equality and Diversity. While diversity must be addressed in a broad sense and work towards the inclusion of all people equally, unfortunately, the evidence shows that discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity is still prevalent in our society. In 2019 there were 1,870 victims of homophobic or transphobic acts in France, i.e. +36% compared to 2018. While this is better in certain aspects, these figures show that here too, nothing can be taken for granted. 55% of LGBT people have experienced LGBTphobic acts in their lifetime.

This is why a new National Action Plan for Equal Rights, against anti-LGBT+ hatred and discrimination was launched last October by Elisabeth Moreno. This action plan was drawn up on the basis of an observation and exchanges with LGBT+ associations and involves all Ministries around 42 identified actions. I am in charge of the follow-up of this action plan, the first report of which will take place on 16 March, and of the stakeholders’ coordination (Ministries, public and territorial functions, but also the communication with the associative fabric and different actors of the civil society). The current government is very committed on this subject and one of the illustrations is undoubtedly the access to the LDC for all, which should be ratified before the summer and which is expected by homosexual women but also by single women since 2013.

Tram Anh: From your experience in your new role, how can we collectively foster diversity in finance?

Over the last few years, several banking institutions and consulting firms that also work in Finance have seen the creation of internal networks of LGBT+ employees. London, perhaps a little further ahead than France on these issues, has led the way in Finance. I think this is a good thing. Far from being communitarianism, it is sometimes useful, and on this subject I believe it is even necessary, to make the invisible visible. By showing that the Trader you regularly meet is gay, that this Project Manager is married to a woman and mother of two beautiful children, that the newcomer is a volunteer in an association fighting against HIV, you bring people together, you create a link and you show the normality but also the richness of a company. I am a great believer in these internal networks, which have a role to play at several levels (in relation to management in developing the LGBT+ rights of employees, in recruitment by showing that diversity is not an issue, in the friendliness they can provide, etc.).

Being a woman in the financial world often puts you in a minority position, at least for positions of responsibility and more markedly at the top of financial institutions. Being a lesbian in this universe undoubtedly adds the risk of further discrimination (sexism and sexual orientation are among the 25 criteria for discrimination). There is no solution to the potential misogyny in a company, but there is the possibility of choosing an inclusive company, and there are more and more of them, and also never hesitate to raise the issue when you think you are being discriminated against.

The world of finance, which had not experienced a real revolution for a long time, is being reshaped with the evolution of Fintechs, changes in consumer habits (online shopping, increase in remote working, financial services comparison sites…) and the arrival of new and large non-specialised players. There is therefore no standard curriculum, but on the contrary, there are skills and attitudes which define you, which differentiate you and which make you useful and necessary for a company. Lifelong learning to adapt is the key. The variety of roles, environments and structures also contributes to your value. So don’t be afraid to diversify your experiences!

Technology has radically changed finance over the last decade. From posing challenges such as how to digitize the incredibly huge amounts of data, to opportunities beyond what we could imagine possible, the financial services industry of 2020 is long distanced from how we knew finance back in 2010.

But, how has this decade of technological changes affected the world’s top 10 financial institutions? We have asked their market capitalisation for answers. Here is what they’ve told us:

Only 4 of the Top 10 financial institutions in 2010 remain at the top

A decade in finance has not gone without change. Back in 2010, the top 10 financial institutions making the list were all traditional banks. But looking into the business model of the top 10 as of today, we see quite a significant change.

5 of the 6 new entrants in the chart have moved away from traditional banking to be heavily involved in payments and leverage a platform business model – a sign of how clients have also changed their needs and requirements for financial institutions in the last decade.

And not only that, but in many instances, they have overcome the remaining 4, making them move down in the chart from their 2010 position.

Half of the Top 10 are now platforms which leverage network externalities of digital

Visa, MasterCard, Paypal, Ant Group and Tencent Fintech have all overthrown major banks from 2010 in market capitalization and now climbed to be included in the top 10 for 2020. Above their enormous increase in valuation since 2010 (Mastercard leads with almost 1000% increase!), they have one more important common denominator: they all have platform business models.

Digital platforms are rising in finance – and they will be key in the near future

Today, platform business models are allowing financial institutions to leverage network effects, leading to increased efficiency in their operations and the possibility of tapping into new markets, among other advantages. For this reason, the correlations we found between increased market capitalization over the last decade and having a platform business model comes at no surprise to us.

Platforms business models are rising in finance today. According to a McKinsey research report, more than 30% of the global economic activity – some $60 trillion — could be mediated by digital platforms in six years’ time. Yet, experts estimate only 3% of established companies have adopted an effective platform strategy.

But, why so? The answer is simple: many business leaders do not fully understand platforms and how they fit in their industry structure.

And you? Are you ready to deploy platforms in your organization?

[For Immediate Release] London, 21th of August 2020… According to Business Insider, £6.5 billion of incumbent banks’ revenue in the UK is under threat of being scooped up by fintechs and challenger banks. With intense competition from new tech players and other incumbent banks, it has never been more essential for a bank to adopt open banking as part of its strategy. Large banking institutions like DBS, Société Générale and Wells Fargo have embraced this practice and set it at the core of their strategy.

The key challenge faced by incumbent banks in implementing open banking is the transformation of their legacy structure and processes. However in a world where customers are seeking personalised services, these legacy structures are unable to generate customer satisfaction. This is where open banking comes in and allows financial institutions to differentiate themselves from the mass market product offerings, that are still largely characteristic of incumbent banks.

The third course of the Open Banking specialisation, Business Models and Transformation of Incumbents, is delivered by Secil Watson, Executive Vice President and Head of Digital Solutions for Business at Wells Fargo.

Secil currently leads the Commercial Electronic Office portal for Commercial Banking which transacts over $14tr payments annually. She also leads the Wells Fargo Gateway for open banking APIs, which processed 1.6bn data calls in 2019. In the past, she has managed key enterprise channels for consumers, businesses and commercial customers including wellsfargo.com and managed digital product P&Ls including Billpay. She has also grown new channels and capabilities from infancy, including mobile, P2P payments, fraud prevention and Open APIs.

In her 18 years at Wells Fargo, Secil has transformed the bank digitally and brings with her deep knowledge on the transformation of incumbents. Her expertise will allow learners to get an understanding of the ways in which incumbent banks can leverage open banking to catalyse digital transformation in their organisations.

In the words of Secil, “I believe new open banking use cases and ecosystems will transform banking and payments and allow incumbents to continue to compete by enabling them to deliver more relevant, convenient and secure solutions for their customers.”

Details about Business Models and Transformation of Incumbents

A report on digital onboarding by Deloitte has found that 38% of new banking customers will abandon account creation if the process was taking too long or if it was asking for information they were not prepared to disclose. Further, the report also found that 26% of customers prioritise ‘easy enrolment and login’ in deciding who to bank with.

Undoubtedly, we are now living in an era where customer centricity is essential in order to compete. However, for financial institutions, this is where it gets tricky. The example of digital onboarding above highlights a merger between compliance and customer centricity components. The question is, how can banks ensure that they fulfil both?

Let’s talk about the ‘3Cs’ of Regulatory Technology — Customer Centric Compliance.

First and foremost, what does Regulatory Technology — more commonly known as — RegTech represent?

In the financial industry these days, what RegTech represents in the development of a technology framework and standards to manage the cost and complexity of compliance with a specific regulation. In other words, technology that organises workflow and data in a smarter way to provide nimble and secure regulatory solutions.

After the 2008 financial crisis, regulators have become increasingly more rigorous with their inspection. Compliance officers are now expected to leave no margin for error, resulting in the due diligence process becoming overzealous. Compliance spending has never been higher. On average, banks are expected to spend up to 10% of their revenue by 2020.

Hitherto, customer expectations within the financial industry are also at an all-time high. In the last 2 years, digital banks have emerged out of nowhere in a relatively short period of time, owing a significant amount of their success to their customer centricity strategies. Leveraging innovative technology to confirm the identities of their customers whilst at the same time meeting ‘Know Your Customer’ (KYC) requirements, digital banks have transformed the financial services landscape. To win back the client game, banks have to adapt. It is essential that regulatory compliance become a largely automated and recurring process.

Monzo, one of the first digital bank, with 3.6 million of clients in 2020.
Source: www.pymnts.com

Conventionally, regulatory technology is seen as a useful tool that makes the compliance process for financial institutions less costly and more efficient. However, RegTech has the potential to be more than just that. If leveraged wisely, regulation can actually help provide a competitive advantage. For example, RegTech can be used to help banks build customer-centric and yet compliant onboarding processes. With the technology available these days, it is possible for banks to seamlessly link the compliance department to the consumer end, effectively making the user experience quicker and more enjoyable. The same goes for payment solidification. Previously, payment solidification was mandated to take place in-person. Now, advanced technology has made it possible to use a biometric element for identification verification.

Rethinking compliance

With this in mind, banks need to start radically rethinking their service and product strategies. This includes:

Strategy: service and product roadmap,

Governance of processes, data, infrastructure, integration,

Partner strategy: RegTechs, FinTechs, technology, integration partners.

Further, banks need to start researching what their clients prefer In digital banks. Is the main reason pertaining to:

The low cost solutions and benefits of the branchless nature of digital banks

Or

The user experience that cutting-edge technology provides?

The answers derived then need to be integrated into compliance requirements as service components, with a customer satisfaction goal in mind.

In conclusion, regulatory technology holds tremendous potential and is a game-changer for the compliance industry. RegTech is not only mandated and used by regulators, but it is also a completely new way to conceptualise the financial market. Wide-spread implementation will likely result in the financial infrastructure being permanently transformed.

CFTE and Pantheon Sorbonne University will be working together to transform La Sorbonne’s M2 Finance Technology Data programme into an online experience. This rapid evolution of teaching methods is meant to provide learning continuity and value to students.

The addition of Regulation Technology as a teaching topic falls in alignment with the design principles of the M2 Finance Technology Data programme, which aims to equip future graduates with a solid foundation in financial theory to critically assess and understand the global FinTech landscape.

RegTech is one of the fastest-growing growing sub-sector in financial services with an estimated US$25billion in spending by 2025. It provides, to financial institutions implementing it, a competitive advantage by being more customer-centric whilst upholding more efficiently reporting obligations.

The Academic Director of the programme and consultant at OECD, Olena Havrylchyk has said, “While technology is often seen as an efficiency tool, I’m convinced that it should be equally mobilized to make finance more stable and sustainable. This requires both a deep understanding of the financial instability as well as an informed view of how new technology could impact regulation. I’m happy to partner with the CFTE and its outstanding teaching team that will bring its international experience to the Sorbonne classroom.”

CFTE’s Co-Founder, Tram Anh Nguyen, said: “We are delighted to be working with La Sorbonne to launch this first of its kind programme to transform La Sorbonne’s Master 2 Programme “Finance Technology Data” into an online experience, whilst also providing students access to learn about the trending topic of Regtech. To CFTE, La Sorbonne is one of the most prestigious universities in France and I am extremely impressed by La Sorbonne’s willingness to innovate and try new pedagogical methods to maintain the best standards for their students.”

Janos Barberis, Academic Board of CFTE, who will be Teaching the RegTech Module of M2 Master at La Sorbonne also stated, “It is an honour to be in partnership with such a prestigious university, working on an initiative which leverages CFTE’s core business and long-standing knowledge in the space. The benefit of RegTech is that it is able to provide gains in efficiency for compliance, whilst having the potential to fundamentally transform the market structure. It is extremely exciting to be able to share this with La Sorbonne’s students.”

CFTE is also currently producing its Regulation Technology online course, which is scheduled to be released in May 2020.
