The Central Bank of Eswatini Upskills Employees with CFTE

London, 26 November 2019 – The Centre for Finance, Technology and Entrepreneurship (CFTE) is delighted to announce that it has been chosen by the Central Bank of Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) for a programme to upskill employees to embrace the new age of finance.

The Central Bank of Eswatini (CBE) programme have selected more than 100 employees to enrol in the CFTE Fintech Foundation course, with the aim to roll out the programme to other banks and financial institutions within the country, and further expansion into other regions within Africa.

“With this partnership, we want our employees to understand the nature of the main changes happening in finance, learn how innovative technologies and business models are disrupting the industry, and acquire the mindset to boost digital transformation within the organisation,” said Ms. Bonisiwe Masuku, CBE General Manager of Human Resources and Administration.

The agreement marks the official partnership of CFTE with a national central bank and will see the establishment of a dedicated CBE access platform as well as an active forum with assigned teaching assistants for queries. It will also see CFTE organising two events in partnership with the CBE for the participants of the programme, which will bring together CFTE industry experts and the bank’s senior leaders for engaging discussions and networking sessions.

Huy Nguyen Trieu, co-founder CFTE said, “It is fantastic to see a central bank in Africa quickly catching up to the fast-evolving world of finance by upskilling its employees.”

“This can only bode well for the future of Fintech in Africa, as there is a huge underserved market that cannot access financial services, and we are excited to play a role in changing that.”

The Fintech Foundation Course is developed by CFTE and aims to provide learners with a solid foundation in Fintech in just eight hours. Students will learn about the main Fintech trends and technological changes, and look at the main players driving the growth of the ecosystem from world-class experts such as Claire Calmejane (CIO at Societe Generale); Rob Frohwein (CEO of Kabbage); Ronit Ghose (Global Head of Bank Research at Citi) and many others.

“We are humbled to be entrusted with the opportunity to upskill the employees of CBE, we will do our best to ensure that they will be fully equipped to understand and embrace the new world of finance,” said CFTE co-founder Tram Anh Nguyen.

“This partnership marks another milestone in the development journey of CFTE, and further emphasises our belief that we are moving in the right direction”, he explained.
