The book which analyses the 225 largest Fintech companies and 40,000 jobs, aims to create awareness about the new jobs and skills needed in Fintech within the wider ecosystem. The book has 36 experts and thought leaders who have supported the book’s launch. To help create a positive impact on society, all proceeds from the book aim to go to the Epic Foundation, an organisation supporting youth charities globally.

Technological innovation in Fintech has changed service delivery which has influenced skills, responsibilities, and expertise needed to succeed in the Fintech industry. The Fintech industry today is a one of the largest employers, providing new jobs every day. But, there is a lack of awareness about the jobs and right skills needed in Fintech among job seekers, hiring organisations, governments, regulators, and higher education. There is a false notion that Fintech is only open to those with a financial background and no clarity on the size of the job market and emerging opportunities in Fintech and Financial Services.

To capture these changing trends, jobs and skills, the Fintech Job Report was published by Huy Nguyen Trieu and Tram Anh Nguyen, CFTE’s co-founders. The report has now launched as a book on Amazon with a vision of making this knowledge accessible to all.

The book aims to help job seekers need to know what makes them the right fit, to fully leverage the emerging job opportunities in Fintech and Financial Services. It is also key for hiring organisations and companies to know what skills and mindset to look for in talent. It is a guide for Governments and Regulators to understand how to attract, nurture and retain the right people globally. While also helping higher education institutions to know how to groom talent for the right business needs.

To make this easier and provide the industry with the clarity it previously lacked, the Fintech Job Report will underline the key industry trends, highlight where the opportunities lie and construct a skill set that is ideal for a fintech candidate. The report analysed the 225 largest Fintech companies, representing $2.7T of market capitalisation, and identified 40,000 jobs offered by these companies. The report also reveals that the Fintech industry employs more than 300,000 people, which is a significantly large number considering that the largest financial centres such as New York or London employ 450,000 and 400,000 people respectively.

The report’s findings help us see that jobs in Fintech are much closer to jobs in tech companies rather than financial services, leading to the conclusion that “technology is eating finance” both in the innovation and recruitment trends. These revelations allow individuals exploring FinTech roles to understand the skills they need to succeed in Fintech. These skills include soft skills, hard skills, mindsets, and experience. Thus, the current state of job and skills interestingly shows us that, a platform engineer in e-commerce has more employability skills than a traditional banker in Fintech.

Fintech provides an opportunity for many individuals to create, start, grow and pivot into the industry with this report acting as a guide into the jobs in Fintech, the relevant skills for Fintech and thriving in FinTech culture by practising various soft skills and mindsets.

To gather views on the report from the industry at large, 36 experts and thought leaders have shared their views on the book and have supported its launch to help create a big, positive impact in the industry.

While launching the report as a book aims to get the research in front of people across the globe, it also has another noble mission behind it. With an aim to create a positive impact on society, CFTE aims to give all the proceeds from the book to Epic Foundation, an organisation supporting youth charities globally to help uplit the lives of disadvantaged youth.

A major change in the fintech and financial services industry is the evolution of technology-driven tools needed to excel in various job functions. According to CFTE’s research in the Fintech Job Report, 80% of jobs in fintech are those found in technology companies making it a big challenge for those lacking the right skills and mindset to access these opportunities.
